URWERK presents the EMC: The first high-end mechanical watch with “artificial intelligence”
Our step forward in the search for precision and chronometry, the EMC Black was first unveiled in September 2014, by December URWERK was honoured with both the “Mechanical exception” and “Innovation” prizes for the EMC Black at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève.
Now is your chance to own a double award-winning EMC Black from our Pre-Owned collection. With black DLC-treated titanium and steel case, and a combination of pure mechanical watchmaking, and an electronic optical sensor, which enables the wearer the ability to gauge the precision of their timepiece’s chronometric performance and fine-tune it to better suit their daily rhythm and pace of life.
The calibre UR-EMC was conceived, developed and manufactured by URWERK. Manually wound with 80 hours power reserve from vertically mounted double mainspring barrels, connected in series. The optical sensor's power comes from a Maxon® generator with manual winding charging supercapacitor charge using the fold out crank on the case side.
Felix Baumgartner - "EMC is for me the start of a new level of Haute Horology.
It combines fine electronics with traditional watchmaking, it opens the horizon and brings watchmaking to a new generation.
It took us four years to develop the EMC not the usual to come closer to people working on robotics and pharmaceutical industry two, It's pushing boundaries of what exists and this is what I am."
Martin Frei - "For the first time in the history of our URWERK endeavour I was about to create a watch with regular hands. This was not an easy task, we are known as the guys with the revolving hour satellites, and therefore I somewhat needed to start from scratch.
I imagined the case as a rough, stone-like body carrying a control board for the movement of our new invention, you can also spot the influence of objects that are dear to me: the crank echoes that of old SLR cameras; and the design of the balance wheel is reminiscent of a vintage 1/4 inch tape reel."
